Manual lymphatic drainage

With the manual lymphatic drainage method the lymphatic system can be activated and enforced to work faster and remove water retention. Its based on four basic movements such as: circular-, pumping- and a cupping motion. With these techniques the tissue can be drained from excess fluids and water retention. In addition to manual lymphatic drainage, we recommend a lymph tape.

Goals of manual lymphatic drainage

  • Reduction from lymphatic edema after operations
  • Pain relief
  • After care for whiplash syndrome
  • Improvement of scarred tissue
  • Reduction of edema due to pregnancy
  • Reduction of edema due to post menstrual syndrome
  • Pain relief in case of injured muscular tissue, ligaments and tendons or in case of burns etc.
  • Improve production of new lymphatic vessels.
  • Enhance healing process of the body

History

One type of the manual lymphatic drainage method was created by a danish couple, Emile and Astrid Vodder. They performed this treatment to strengthen the lymphatic system of the human body. Next to our circulatory-, nervous- and hormonal system, the lymphatic system has one of the most important functions of our body. The primary function is to transport lymph, a clear, colorless fluid containing white blood cells that helps remove toxins, waste and other unwanted materials from the body. Upon this, it is a large part of the immune system.

What is lymphatic tape?
In addition to manual lymphatic drainage, lymph taping can also have a supportive effect. The tape slightly lifts the skin and natural movements in everyday life create friction between the skin layers. The connective tissue is loosened and the lymph fluid can drain off more quickly. In an individual discussion we will advise you whether and if so, which tape could be most effective for you.
